More attempts at still-life. I made this a clean and simple shot focusing on the product. I realized I was being too conceptual and I should focus on simple shots first, crawl before I run even though I like running. FYI this simple lighting setup was not so simple.

Safara is a trip and fun to work with, she was meant to be famous. Hopefully I will post the video of us goofing around in the studio for you to even mildly comprehend her uniqueness. Anyhoo tried to bite Camilla Akrans stylo on this one, not gonna lie. Maybe a little bit of Darnell Scott's stylo as well. I'm not really comfortable not shooting with strobes but I love the drama from not using them that you can get.

Starting to get into product photo my boss has been kind enough to let me use his equipment. It's really awesome but super frustrating because it's harder to catch mistakes when you're shooting so small. Needless to see there's a huge learning curve regarding lighting that I'm dealing with. Hope you like it.

These are awesomely short shorts for anyone out there with a ridiculously low attention span. Volstok TeleFunken places his animated monsters in real life 30 second situations and quirky hilarity ensues.

Also I thought I'd share this gorgeous picture of Ella Crowe a friend of mine. This is one of my favorite photos because the great lighting you see was due to mother nature, and awesome location scouting which is something I need to do more often.

More recently I shot this portrait as my attempt to copy the great Mark Romanek's "Got til it's gone", video stylings.

I've been dodging my real passion animation for a while through photography, because all you ever have to do is click a button, but this bastard Bang-yao Liu at SCAD came up with the simplest most amazing project. Hope he swindles the people at post-it out of a plethora of money.

It's been a minute but I'll try and keep up with my blog again I'll try and post at least twice a week.

Kehinde Wiley is an artist that has personally influenced my appreciation of Art history by updating that classical Renaissance style and applying it to my culture, I tried to capture that style in this photoshoot. I recently had the misfortune of losing all my digital artwork and all I can do really in times like these is re-up and not endorse the purchase of a WD passport external storage device to anyone.
These portraits are of Jia the lighting is dramatic because I ran into Eugenio Recuenco's work online and was inspired by it's darkness. Still very bummed out losing all my digital work 2008 has me feeling like I'm stuck in reverse.

The Campaign photographer for Obama posted the pictures of him waiting on/getting the news that he's running the free world. Talk about exclusive candid photography, never have pictures of someone watching TV been so chilling.
More from Philadelphia PT. II. To recap it was a week filled with, Halloween festivities Philly hip-hop, Crack heads selling us Air Nikes at 3 in the morning, world series champ parades, and our car getting broken into (sorry ms. Wong) and did I mention we were pretty much flat Broke.
A lot of my shots came out looking horribly but that's life.
PS you can't not laugh at this.

First and foremost I will be answering the phone with Obama instead of Hi for the next month, Anyway I was in Philadelphia for a Hip-Hop gathering called "the gathering". It consisted of breakers, poppers, taggers, emcees and 3 DJ's spinning it was a scene straight out of 8 mile mixed with "you got served". The shooting conditions were terrible for capturing natural light, extremely fast motion and low light...awesome!

The worst part of Photoshop, which I guess is a good problem, is deciding what post production direction I'm going to take after I shoot. These old shots (posted above) of my friend Adela are a perfect example of how you can evoke different moods of one single photoshoot with Photoshop. Lately I have been feeling the retro 70's arthouse film look so I redited these pictures.

Below (for the most part) are the original colors from that day.

This photograph is of the beautiful Nina a good friend of my mine, the most good looking-est mom I ever met. Besides the contrast adjustments in photoshop this picture is 100% percent unfooled with.

Darnell actually knows what he's doing, I generally consider myself a rookie who tends to stumble into something nice. Welcome to my inaugural blog, I figured I'd make a site for viewing higher quality images of my work, here I will also provide commentary on my art as well as the art of others and share some of my influences with you. This site is also going to hopefully host a weekly comic strip, from yours truly, very shortly. I have a whole bunch of new art I can't wait to display.
This illustration started out as a piece about hope, it's an expansion of an Idea my good friend max did, I did it in honor of my Uncle Malvin in Nigeria who is HIV positive. It's called "when pigs fly".
